Hello Dr. Kelly here. Today I wanted to discuss Walking!!
In the beginning of 2026, I spoke about breathing. Now let’s discuss walking.
Walking and being in nature are some of the simplest ways to regenerate.
Walking is free & hopefully easy to do.
If you or someone you know are having a difficult time walking, send them our way.
We don’t want them to miss out.
You can start with a simple walk around your house.
Do you have stairs? Head up and down the stairs. It is a surprisingly great exercise.
Now you are ready to head outside. If you are limited in distance due to pain, start with only a couple of houses, then back to yours to sit and reset. Head back out in the opposite direction.
Regular walking improves cardiovascular health, supports healthy blood pressure, strengthens muscles and bones, and enhances balance and coordination. Even short daily walks can help regulate blood sugar levels, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation.
Remember true health is optimal physical, mental and chemical well-being.
Throw some water in with your outdoor walk and you are hitting all three goals.
Have you ever went outside and walked around the block and thought, or I should have stayed home on the couch?
Spending time outside helps to improve your sleep. Not to mention if Chicago sees any sunlight, you are getting some additional Vitamin D!
You can listen to the birds and the trees.
It doesn’t have to be a long walk. 10 mins gets you going. If you are feeling inspired, go for a 30 min walk.
