Hello Dr. Kelly here. Today I wanted to discuss Sadness.
With the holidays over and the blah days of Chicago on us, sadness can set in.
For all of January, my focus has been on moving.
Whether it has been breathing, walking squats, it is moving.
Dancing falls right in line with that.
If you can’t get out of a funk, start to dance and sing.
It is hard to be sad when you are moving.
Did you know that dancing supports brain health?
So get out there and learn a line dance!
Dancing also promotes emotional expression and processing.
Many people struggle to put feelings into words. Dancing allows those emotions to move through your body, preventing them from becoming stored as tension or chronic stress.
You know mental stress comes out in the physical body.
True health is optimal physical, mental and chemical well-being.
One of the greatest mental health benefits of dancing is its ability to reduce stress.
Did you know that as you dance, the body releases endorphins, dopamine and serotonin?
These are neurochemicals associated with pleasure, motivation and mood regulation.
Dancing causes cortisol levels (stress) to decrease, calming anxiety, lifting mood and creating a sense of emotional balance.
So send me some of your favorite songs.
Mine are all on the line of country songs.
Go play and listen to any song that makes you feel good.
