Good morning! Dr Kelly here. Is Paleo better than Keto?
That depends on you. I personally feel the best on a Paleo diet. My husband feels better on a Keto diet.
Everyone is different. You have to see what is best for you.
So what is the difference between Paleo & Keto?
- Lean protein sources: meat, poultry, fish, and eggs
- Non-starchy vegetables: leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, and peppers
- Nuts and seeds: almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds
- Healthy fats: avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, and ghee
- Some fruits: berries, apples, and citrus fruits
Foods to avoid on the Paleo diet include:
- Processed foods: bread, pasta, and other packaged foods
- Dairy products: milk, cheese, and yogurt
- Legumes: beans, lentils, and peanuts
- Grains: wheat, rice, and corn
Paleo eliminates processed food. It focuses on nutrient dense foods.
That is why I like it. It is healthy eating of wholesome foods.
You can have black coffee but can’t add cream. You need to add a non-cream milk. Like almond milk, or hemp milk.
- Healthy fats: avocado, nuts and seeds, coconut oil, olive oil, butter, and ghee
- Protein sources: meat, poultry, fish, and eggs
- Non-starchy vegetables: leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, and peppers
- Dairy products (in moderation): cheese, yogurt, and cream
Foods to avoid on the keto diet include:
- High-carbohydrate foods: bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes
- Sugary foods: candy, soda, and desserts
- Some fruits: bananas, grapes, and other high-sugar fruits
Your body burns fat and keto provides the fuel you need!
You can drink coffee. A very popular keto coffee is to add a scoop of collagen and butter. You blend it.
I love grains but do not feel well after eating them. So that puts me in a Paleo diet.
I do not feel well after eating dairy. Keto allows dairy in moderation. So once again, that puts me in a Paleo diet.
How do you feel when you eat different foods?
Can you handle dairy? Do you like grains? Do you feel good with low carbs?? Then Keto is your way!
No matter what “Diet” you follow, sticking to real foods leads you on a healthy journey.
