It takes 7 to 14 days for a layer of scar tissue to form in the spine. Think of your spine as your house—it is your foundation. The foundation you currently have is what you need to deal with. Every time you sit for too long, sleep in an awkward position, or injure yourself, your body puts a layer of scar tissue down. I like to think of it as painting the spine joint shut with scar tissue.
Scar tissue is like sticky bubble gum. It is tissue, but it is not normal. It is weaker, less elastic, and more prone to injury. If this happens within 7 to 14 days, then getting adjusted within that time frame helps support the body in healing properly.
Think of a tow truck—your skull—towing the car—your sacrum. The metal-linked chain, your spine, connects the two. When there is an injury and the body heals, it puts scar tissue down. The metal-linked chain gets welded back up. When there is stress on the body—physically, mentally, chemically—where does the stress go? To the weak link.
That is why when we look at your x-rays, you see degeneration building up in certain areas. It’s the weak link areas that take up all the stress. If you don’t move it, you lose it.
All your walking, stretching, yoga, and exercising use big muscles. I want to make sure that every segment of your spine is moving. The Impulse IQ and Activator allow me to be very precise in addressing each individual segment of the spine to make sure that all the links are working well.
It is non-surgical reconstructive care—addressing the nerve, bone, and muscle, getting you back to optimal health.
With the initial visit, three times a week is typical to help support the body to heal. It takes a cluster of care to get your body to reset. It can take 90 days to implement a new routine into the body.
Your body has muscle memory. The body needs that new routine to remember that you need to bring your shoulders down and back to maintain good posture. Otherwise, muscle memory will bring your body back into its old bad habits—slouched in your chair over the computer.
Wellness visits are for patients that have no symptoms and want to keep it that way. This could be once a week to once a month.
Most patients are in maintenance care. They feel better after getting adjusted. They still get aches and pains from their daily lives. They want to maintain where they are at. Most importantly, they do not want to go back to when they were in pain.
If you are a maintenance patient, you may be getting adjusted once a week, once every other week, or once every three weeks. Maintenance keeps you as flexible as possible and moving in a positive direction as we get older.
Can I come back in for wellness visits if I have not been adjusted for a while? Yes.
Oftentimes, patients who have not been adjusted in a while get back on the schedule and their body bounces right back to where it needs to be.
What happens if I am under maintenance or wellness care and I injure myself? Again, I have found that patients bounce back quickly. Your body has muscle memory. With some gentle guidance, your body gets right back on track.
No matter what you are looking for—initial, maintenance, or wellness care—I am here to support you and your family in reaching your healthcare goals in every way possible.
Yours in health naturally,
Dr. Kelly
