Holiday Immune Support

Various supplement pills in a wooden spoonHappy Tuesday! Dr. Kelly here. Immune Support.

Number #1 thing to do to support your immune system is….

Wash your hands.

Number #2 thing to do is…..

Get Adjusted!

An adjustment boosts your immune system.

Number #3

Stop eating junk!

Sugar decreases your immune system.

Number #4

Decrease stress.

It is much easier to do #1 & #2. But it is very cost effective to do #3. And ALMOST impossible to decrease holiday stress.

With the holiday season upon us, it can be difficult to put your health first.

So, what else can you do?

There are several other techniques I use for immune support.

1. Oils: essential oils add support to your body. I use a roller ball of our own immune support blend.

Essential Oils

You can put it on your child’s feet at night before you go to bed and in the morning before they put their socks on.

2. Supplements: Elderberry is wonderful for immune maintenance support.

Elderberry is best when taken daily overtime for prevention. There are more powerful options once you start to feel the onset of the cold.

I still recommend taking supplements for extra support during the cold, but they work best when you hit it hard at the onset of the cold.

Vitamin C comes in many forms. There are chewable and gummy forms that are easier for kids. Vitamin C can be harder on the digestive system. A liposomal form allows you to get vitamin C and makes it easier to absorb.

Vitamin C Chewables
Vitamin C Gummy
 Liposomal Vitamin C
Vitamins Liposomal Vitsamin C

Vitamin D supports your immune system. You would take the dosage you need based on the Vitamin D levels in your body.

Quercetin works to support the cells that kill the virus or bacteria.

Supplements: If you do have a cold, you can beef up on supplements for a SHORT period of time.

Echinacea is an herb that supports your immune system.

Vitamin C. You can take vitamin C every hour until you start to get loose stools. I recommend every 2-4 hours up to 1,000 mg for adults and 500 mg for kids 8+.

Zinc is a go-to for when you are starting to feel sick.

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) is a precursor to Glutathione. Glutathione is a very powerful antioxidant.

Mushrooms play a role in supporting the immune system. The active ingredients in mushrooms stimulate your body’s cells that kill the invader.

There are several supplements that contain nutrients to make getting an immune boost simple.

I like to keep the immune support in the cabinet if needed for a quick grab and take.

A patient asked if a supplement was added to their account, did they have to buy it.

NO.

When I add a supplement into your account, it is a recommendation from me. You have no obligation to purchase the supplement.

You can also ask me questions in your FullScript account. This way we can tailor the recommendations based on your needs.

My current favorite immune supporting supplements are:

Viracid

Viracid

Adults can take 2 capsules for breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime until symptoms resolve for up to 3 days.

Essential Defense

These are Chinese herbs. Take 2 capsules twice a day.

Zinc

Zinc

This Zinc is VERY strong. You must take it with food. I mix it with OJ. Take as directed on the bottle.

We mentioned that stress decreases your immune system.
