Back to the heat: There are a couple of studios in town that offer work outs in higher temperatures.
So what are the benefits?
SWEATING 🥵 😉
Improved cardiovascular health.
Exercising in a heated environment raises the heart rate more quickly, mimicking the effects of moderate cardiovascular training.
This means that even low- to moderate-intensity movements can place the body in a cardio-boosting zone. 💗💗💗
The elevated heart rate not only strengthens the heart but also improves circulation and oxygen delivery throughout the body. Over time, this contributes to better cardiovascular endurance and overall stamina.
Enhanced detoxification.
Sweating is one of the body’s natural ways of eliminating toxins.
In hot temperature and infrared workouts, sweating begins earlier and at a greater rate due to the elevated heat. 😅
Infrared heat, in particular, penetrates the body more deeply than traditional external heat, encouraging detoxification at the cellular level.
This deeper sweat helps release heavy metals, chemicals, and other impurities that may accumulate in the body, leaving participants feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Muscle flexibility and joint health.
Holding poses in a heated environment helps build strength and stability while protecting the joints. Many hot yoga poses engage major muscle groups, building strength and endurance over time. 💪
Warmth helps muscles relax, allowing for a greater range of motion and reducing stiffness. A hot environment essentially “pre-warms” the body, reducing the risk of injury during stretching and dynamic movements.
Burn more calories, maintain healthy weight.
Heat and movement raise heart & metabolic rate which burns more energy.
Some studies suggest that infrared training sessions can burn up to 30% more calories than the same workout performed at room temperature.
Mental and emotional well-being are also positively influenced by hot temperature and infrared workouts.
Some people feel more relaxed, have mental clarity, and reduced stress after a session.
The heat stimulates the release of endorphins—the body’s natural “feel-good” chemicals—while the act of sweating and breathing deeply in a heated environment fosters a meditative state. 😌
Infrared light further enhances this by supporting serotonin production, which can improve mood and combat anxiety or mild depression.
Combining deep breathing, gentle stretching and mindful movements, yoga activates the body’s relaxation response, helping to calm the nervous system.
This allows for lowering stress hormones, releasing tensions and alleviating physical symptoms of stress, such as headaches or back pain. 💥💥💥
Faster recovery and reduced soreness.
Infrared heat increases circulation and oxygen flow to muscles, speeding up the repair of microtears caused by exercise. This enhanced recovery allows athletes and fitness enthusiasts to train more frequently and at a higher intensity without prolonged downtime.
While hot yoga offers numerous benefits, it’s important to be aware of the heat-related issues that could arise, such as:
• Sweating profusely can lead to dehydration, so drink plenty of water before, during and after class.
• Heat can make it easier to overstretch, increasing the risk of injuries. Avoid pushing beyond your limits.
• Those with heart conditions, high blood pressure or heat sensitivity should consult a doctor before trying hot yoga.
• Dizziness, nausea, excessive fatigue and headaches may indicate overheating. If you feel unwell, take breaks or leave the room.
• Pregnancy, Neurological Conditions, Skin Conditions, Respiratory Issues, Chronic Illness or Compromised Immune System
General Safety Tips
• Stay well-hydrated before, during, and after workouts.
• Start with shorter sessions and lower heat levels to acclimate gradually.
• Listen to your body — dizziness, nausea, chest pain, or shortness of breath are signs to stop immediately.
