Celebrate the Fourth of July with Fireworks, Fun, and a Healthy Twist

The Fourth of July is more than just a date on the calendar — it’s a celebration of freedom, family, and the joy of summertime.

Whether you’re gathered with loved ones around a barbecue or watching fireworks light up the night sky, Independence Day is the perfect opportunity to pause, reflect, and revel in the beauty of community and country.

The Magic of Fireworks

There’s something childlike and awe-inspiring about watching those bursts of color illuminate the darkness, each explosion reminding us of the spirit and sacrifice that led to our nation’s independence.

Fireworks are more than just entertainment — they symbolize the fiery courage and enduring hope that continue to define the American story.

So grab a blanket, Put your Natural Bug Spray on and head out to watch some fireworks!

I use our homemade doTerra Bug spray. doTerra sells TeraSheild. Gayle makes & sells our own.

The mosquitos LOVE me which is why I use the homemade doTerra bug spray!! The secret is to rub it into your skin!

Here is the recipe:
30ml Spray Bottle
20 drops TerraShield
20 drops Lemongrass
20 drops Purify
10 drops Cedarwood
10 drops Eucalyptus
Top off with water or witch hazel

If you want to save time, Gayle will make it for you. They are $8 each.

We use to go to the parking garage and watch all the local ones from up there. They have closed off the top level

Where is your favorite location to watch the fireworks??

A Healthier Way to Celebrate

Here’s a fresh and colorful recipe that’s perfect for any patriotic potluck or picnic:

Red, White & Blue Summer Salad

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups baby spinach or mixed greens
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 avocado, diced
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese (or vegan alternative)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds or walnuts (optional)

Dressing:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey or maple syrup
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Directions:

Toss all salad ingredients together in a large bowl. Whisk dressing ingredients in a separate bowl and drizzle over the top just before serving. The mix of sweet berries, creamy avocado, and tangy feta is both festive and nourishing.

Sparkling Citrus & Berry Mocktail
Ditch the sugary sodas and cocktails this year and raise a glass of something refreshing and alcohol-free. This hydrating mocktail is perfect for sipping in the summer heat and can be made in a big pitcher for guests.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sparkling water or club soda
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (fresh if possible)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 cup sliced strawberries
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Ice

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a pitcher. Muddle the mint slightly to release its flavor. Serve over ice and garnish with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint. It’s fizzy, fruity, and perfectly festive!

Do you have a favorite healthy dish or mocktail??

Celebrate Balance! The 4th doesn’t have to mean abandoning your wellness goals. It can be a day of joyful movement, outdoor games, laughter, and savoring food that energizes rather than depletes.

So here’s to a Fourth of July filled with love, light, and a little extra leafy greens.

Don’t forget to send us your favorite spot to watch the fireworks and your favorite healthy recipe!!
