Hello! Dr. Kelly here. Today I will be discussing Food Testing.
Come learn more at our workshop on Thursday, May 15 @ 11:30am.
Do you have a gut feeling that something is wrong? You don’t feel right.
You have had an Endoscopy or Colonoscopy and the doctor says everything is fine.
That is great you don’t have cancer, but something is wrong.
Could it be Gluten? Dairy? What is the best way to find out?
An elimination diet will work, but that is difficult and time consuming. To be accurate, you need to remove a particular food for several days before you may notice feeling better.
90 days of food avoidance is best. Even the smallest amount of food exposure can skew the results.
One of the most efficient way to assess food sensitivity is to do a food intolerance test. This is a simple blood test from a finger prick you do at home.
Many people have GI issues. Some people don’t realize that the bloating or brain fog that they have could be coming from food sensitivities.
Your GI issues could be a simple as feeling bloated to as complex as heartburn or stomach cramping. Achy joints, acne, eczema – all could both be coming from food sensitivities.
Side note: When I am discussing food sensitivities or food intolerance, I am not referring to allergic response to food. I.E. – you eat nuts and go into anaphylactic shock. I hope that makes sense.
No matter what your symptom is, your GI – the gut – is the second brain to the body.
Most people would agree that the brain is important. Well, your Gut is important too. The Gut is made up of several cells that stand really close to each other. Picture several people in line standing shoulder to shoulder.
When you eat an apple the body breaks it down into small nutrients. In the gut when the cells are tight only the proper nutrients get through into your blood stream.
If the Gut is unhealthy and there are spaces between the cells, larger particles of the apple can cross into your blood stream. Your body does not recognize these large particles of apple. Your body is only design to use the small nutrients from the apple.
Your body is smart and when they see these large particles that are not supposed to be there, they attack it. This starts the process of food intolerance and sensitivities.
This is how you can be intolerant to an apple. To Gluten, to Dairy. This is why a simple finger prick can identify exactly what foods you should or should not be eating.
You can test your blood for IgG, IgA or IgE antibodies. The IgE is an allergy to a food (ie-you can’t eat nuts). IgA reaction show mucosal lining irritation. It is the IgG reaction that gives the most useful data to determine what foods you should be eating.
I like to test for IgG and IgA.
A major advantage to IgG food testing is that it can support gut health and immune system balance. By reducing exposure to inflammatory foods, you give your digestive system time to heal, which may also improve immune function and nutrient absorption.
Also, IgG testing offers a personalized approach to diet and wellness. While many elimination diets follow a one-size-fits-all method, IgG testing provides specific guidance based on your individual immune response, allowing for a more tailored and sustainable dietary plan.
The food test can test several hundred different foods. I recommend looking at what foods you eat and get testing for those.
The kit can be shipped directly to your house, or you can pick one up from the office. The test is done in your own home. You prick your finger & fill circles with blood drops. You let it dried & drop it in the mail.
Very easy and efficient. You have the results in about 10 business days. I will review the results with you & determine the best course of action to get your body back to health.
Can food testing really make a difference?
YES!
I have had several patients learn that they need to remove certain foods, once they did they feel a million times better!
If there are several foods that need to be removed, you may have a Leaky Gut. Then I would recommend additional Natural changes to help your body heal.
You can reach out by responding to this email or text us if you want more info on what Food tests are best for you! Even better, ask me about it at your next visit.
